Attending an Orientation is the place to start if you want to buy a home. At our Homebuyer Orientation, we talk about the advantages & disadvantages of homeownership, a snapshot of qualifying for a mortgage, and some of the costs you will incur in the homebuying process. You'll also learn about the steps involved in our Pre-Purchase Program and applying for First Time Homebuyer Grants. There is no fee for this session and is held monthly except in August and December.

This eight-hour class (held in two sessions) provides all the information needed to learn about the homebuying process, what to look for in buying a home, different mortgage products, roles of different professionals, and more.
*New clients must attend Homebuyer Orientation first, then meet with housing counselor prior to registering for this class to determine/verify mortgage readiness. Fee for this course is $50
You must complete both sessions to recieve Certificate of Completion.
New classes are held monthly except during August and December.

We also offer an Online Homebuyer Education for those who are in urgent need to complete this course, those who live farther away from our office, or those whose work schedule does not permit them to attend scheduled workshops. Everyone can benefit from being smarter about managing his or her money. This workshop, held in two sessions (different topics per session), will help you do just that. Topics include: Creating effective Spending Plans, Building your Savings, Credit Building & Repair, & Financial Goals including Loans. There are no fees for these sessions, and are held 3 times a year.

Learn best rental management practices in the free, four-hour session. Hear from TRIP's Rental Management Director, one of Troy's community police officers, a code enforcement inspector, Rensselaer Polytecnic Institute, and United Tenants. This class is designed for small or large landlords, both newbies and old-timers. Troy Landlord Training sessions are held two times each year. There is a $15 workbook fee for this workshop.

This is a free workshop hosted by HomeSave, a coalition of nonprofit
legal, housing and community groups, that will help you understand
the foreclosure process, and prepare you to deal with it. Homeowners
will learn about the timeline, expectations, your options,
resources available and how to move forward. Become your best
advocate. Get educated to protect your home and avoid scams and
deeper financial difficulties.
Taught by knowledgeable housing counselors from agencies around the
region, no personal information needs to be discussed during the workshop.
Foreclosure affects homeowners across all income and education
levels. Anyone in need of assistance should attend. Residents from any
area can attend.
