Homebuyer Orientation

Attending an Orientation is the place to start if you want to buy a home. At our Homebuyer Orientation, we talk about the advantages & disadvantages of homeownership, a snapshot of qualifying for a mortgage, and some of the costs you will incur in the homebuying process. You’ll also learn about the steps involved in our Pre-Purchase Program and applying for First-Time Homebuyer Downpayment Assistance.

There is no fee for this session and is held monthly except in August and December.

HomeBuyer Education Classes

This six-hour class provides all the information needed to learn about the homebuying process, what to look for in buying a home, different mortgage products, roles of different professionals, and more.

*NEW CLIENTS should attend Homebuyer Orientation first, then meet with housing counselor prior to registering for this class to determine/verify mortgage readiness.

You must complete both an individual appointment as well as attend group workshop to receive a Certificate of Completion.

Fee for this course is $70

Classes are held bi-monthly except during August and December.

NEED IT FAST?  In person is best, but we also offer an Online Homebuyer Education for those who are in urgent need to complete this course, those who live farther away from our office, or those whose work schedule does not permit them to attend scheduled workshops.

Spend Smart

Everyone can benefit from being smarter about managing his or her money. This workshop, held in two sessions (different topics per session), will help you do just that. Topics include: Creating Effective Spending Plans, Building Your Savings, Credit Building & Repair, & Financial Goals.

There is a $15 fee for these sessions which are held every month except August and December.

Troy Landlord Training

Learn best rental management practices!  Hear from a variety of experts about tenant screening, local housing codes and ordinances, the eviction process, market niches, lead, and more.  This two-part class is designed for small or large landlords, both newbies and old-timers. Troy Landlord Training sessions are held twice annually.

There is a $20 fee for this workshop. Landlord resources are available here.

 

Home Maintenance Training

Learn how to do your own home repairs in this hands-on home maintenance training program held at TRIP’s HomeOwnership Center.

Classes run weekly for eight sessions from 6 – 7:30 PM and are offered twice annually. There is no fee for this session.
